Ray Dalio is the founder of Bridgewater Associates. He is an American billionaire who made his fortune in the hedge fund sector of the stock industry. Dalio is a self-made tycoon who has an interesting and inspiring story. He is a role model for entrepreneurs who don't start with a lot of capital. He has advised some of the richest people in the world on financial matters. Here are 16 things you probably didn't know about Ray Dalio.

Even though Dalio doesn't occupy the position of the richest people in the world, he's up there in the top 100. Blomberg ranked him as the 58th richest person in the world. This is valid as of June 2019, and it is likely that Dalio will maintain his position on this exclusive list or may even climb higher as Bridgewater Associates and his many other investments continue to do well.

1. Ray Dalio, born Raymond Dalio, is an American investor and hedge fund manager. He is the founder of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world's largest investment firms.

2. He was born in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, New York. 

3. He was only 12 years old when he made his first ever legitimate investment. He bought 300 shares of Northeast Airlines stock. When Northeast merged with another company, Dalio tripled his investment. 

4. Dalio was not surrounded by a wealthy family with a lot of financial resources. He even worked as a child, but it was one of his jobs that inspired him to try his hand at the stock market. 

5. He graduated from Long Island University and received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from there. Later, he received an MBA from Harvard Business School. 

6. After completing his education, Ray Dalio began working at the New York Stock Exchange and began trading commodity futures.

7. He has also authored and published an essay "How the economic machine works: a template for understanding what's happening now." He published a book called "Principles", which details the billionaire investor's investment and corporate governance philosophy based on his own self-analysis and corporate experience.

8. Once appeared on the list "The 100 most influential people in the world".

9. He joined Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in pledging to give more than half of his fortune to charitable foundations during his lifetime. Through his foundation, Dalio has donated millions of dollars worth of gifts.

10. In 2013, Dalio shared his economic theories and investment secrets on YouTube through a 30-minute video titled "How the economic machine worksj".

11. Dalio has been married to Barbara since 1976. His wife is a predecessor of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The couple has four sons, including film director Paul Dalio.

12. In 2018, he converted Bridgewater Associates into a partnership. In this partnership, he gave his employees a larger stake in the firm. It was a generous move on Dalio's part, but he wanted to ensure the survival of the company, which he built from the walls of a two-bedroom apartment in New York City. 

13. Ray Dalio occupies a spot on several of Forbes' top-performing lists.

14. Its estimated net worth is 18.7 billion .

15. He founded the Dalio Foundation to oversee donations to charities. The foundation supports urban education, microfinance, etc.

16. Dalio doesn't spend every waking moment at the company. He cares about protecting the planet's natural resources and working to preserve it. He is also interested in ocean exploration. He is a follower of OceanX.
