"Investing for me is no longer just about earnings. I want to focus on investments that will have more value."
Šimon Valláš is a translator by profession who has been actively involved in investing since 2013. He founded the website schwa.sk, where he tries to educate the society in the field of financial literacy through blogs. He gets his information from practice, which he considers to be his advantage, because, in his words, the use of peasant reason is sometimes much more important than charts or the opinions of experts.
Šimon's first dabble with investing started back in 2010, via a demo money app in which he traded stocks. As an inexperienced newcomer, he lost all this, fortunately fictitious money. However, thanks to the app, he became more interested in investing. In 2013, he also ventured into the real money game and opted for mutual funds. He was still a layman in the field, but he invested regularly every month and saw results that motivated him to keep going.
"Investors need to keep their emotions in check."
With the prospect of making a quick buck, he took up trading, that is, trading stocks on the stock exchange through a broker. He didn't have enough knowledge about short-term trading at that time, and although he initially seemed to end up 70% in the black, after the final settlement it was the same number but in the red. He says he had no patience, let his emotions get the better of him and on those, the trader should not have given in.
"One of the qualities of an investor should be consistency or purposefulness, not letting small, less substantial and immediate needs disrupt or stop a long-term goal."
Since then, it has focused on long-term instruments, which have a much better spread of risk. At the same time, it wants to support environmentally conscious, sustainable development and green production companies. For him, investing is no longer just about earnings. He wants to focus on higher-value investments.
