This is how you calculate how much money will be credited to your account. In a month's time, Slovaks can look forward to their 14th pensions - The Social Insurance Institution will pay the so-called 14th pension in December 2022 automatically, so there is no need to apply for this benefit separately. (Note: This will be the amount calculated as 70 % of the 13th pension paid in July this year.) You can calculate the amount in the calculator on the SP website.

Wealthy October: the wealth of these rich people rose by at least a billion dollars in a month - After hitting an annual low in September, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed October with a gain of 14 %, the best monthly result since 1976. The S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite rose by 8 % and 4 %, respectively. Larry Ellison (19 %) was the best gainer last month, and others (Warren Buffett 9.4 %, Phil Knight 9 %) also did well. However, most of them are still losing when taking into account the full year results.

Slovakia lags not only behind the European average in digitalization of companies - A Dell survey shows that up to 51 % IT leaders in companies around the world admit to their own cluelessness in trying to figure out how to implement innovation and digitization processes in their own company. The survey also found that only about a tenth of global companies are actively trying to implement digital innovation into their business. Slovakia is set to become the European Union's top digital economy in 2021, according to Eurostat ranked 21st on the Digital Intensity Index (DII), exactly the same as the previous year.

List: October's hottest rounds of seed funding for startups - Compared to September's "rebound", October's funding weakened slightly. A total of €373 million was raised in 259 rounds (€510 million in 333 rounds the previous month). Despite the drop, this was still an improvement on the average number of rounds from June to August, which was 222.

  • SaaS: OutThink, which received one of the two highest monthly volumes of €10 million, focuses on one of the main risks to a company's security - employee behaviour and mistakes.
  • FinTech: Arf, which was one of the startups tracked by Web3 portal Sifted, is using blockchain-based technology to streamline the cumbersome process that is international banking for industries working across borders.
  • Edtech: Ludenso of Norway has raised $1 million led by Ferd Venture, one of the country's largest venture capital firms, which previously invested in now-defunct solar energy provider Scatec.
  • Climate tech: Finnish concrete decarbonisation startup Hyperion Robotics has raised €3 million from companies such as Lifeline Ventures and Impact VC Übermorgen. It brings automation to the construction industry and aims to reduce the carbon impact of concrete production.

Technologies transforming the deepest depths of the city - the sewers - Sewerage has a long and rich history around the world, from Mesopotamian clay pipes and Roman baths to the 1.3 million miles of sewer systems in operation in the U.S. today.

  • Disease detection - Testing wastewater for pathogens is not new, but in the Covid era, this technology has received more attention for its ability to monitor virus levels in localized areas.
  • More and more cities are using sound to find clogged drains via an acoustic device. The assessment takes 3 minutes.
  • Flood prevention - The 120 sensors, installed in 2008 (and upgraded in 2017), have saved the City of South Bend, Indiana, approximately $1 million annually in operation and maintenance costs and millions more in avoided fines.

NBS. On the basis of Regulation (EU) 2020/1503 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 October 2020 on European crowdfunding service providers for business and amending Regulation (EU) 2017/1129 and Directive (EU) 2019/1937 (the "Regulation on European crowdfunding service providers for business"), crowdfunding will become a legally regulated activity. From the nature of the Regulation in question, it is expected that the authority authorising and supervising the activities of crowdfunding service providers within the Slovak Republic will be the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic or the National Bank of Slovakia. As a provider of crowdfunding services, we welcome this effort of the European Parliament and we are ready to actively participate in the implementation of the Regulation in order to clarify and set uniform rules for crowdfunding within Slovakia as well as throughout the European Union.
