Elon Musk is a complicated personality. Like Steve Jobs, he is capable of inventing things that customers didn't even know they wanted. Some say he is a brilliant manager, others say he is a tyrant obsessed with grandiosity. People who know him say he's exactly the kind of person who looks at something that everyone thinks is impossible and says, hmm, I could do that - and then he does it.

What will you learn in the new podcast?

If the laws of physics allow it, Elon Musk believes it can be done. It's very simple. He is an eternal optimist and his time estimates are notoriously bad. He is a man who asks the hard questions and doesn't want to hear the easy answers. He pays extreme attention to things that interest him and tries to understand every aspect of his businesses in detail. The worst thing you can do in front of him is to tell him something is impossible.

Elon and his entry into Tesla.

Inventor and engineer JB Straubel's dream was to create an electric vehicle that was sexy. It was a good idea, but no one was interested. That changed when Straubel met Elon Musk through a mutual friend. He responded immediately and poured $6.5 million into Tesla, becoming its largest shareholder and chairman of the board. On January 27, 2005, the first car saw the light of day. Musk poured another 9 million into the company.

The cast in the film, personal and financial problems.

Robert Downey Jr. was the inspiration for the character of Iron Man. Elon also appeared in the second part of the film. In June 2008, Elon filed for divorce. The popular show Top Gear did an unflattering review of his roadster, and many in the business thought Musk was on the verge of financial ruin. Elon had to take out a loan from his own company, SpaceX, to continue, he even took out a loan from his own employees. He knew he couldn't fail and Tesla couldn't go bankrupt.

A financial injection from NASA.

The problems were eventually solved out of the blue by NASA, which gave SpaceX a $1.6 billion contract to supply the International Space Station. In 2012, they launched the Model S for $70,000. A few months later, Motor Trend magazine named it Car of the Year. Tesla's stock soared above $160 and the market valued the company at roughly $20 billion.

Transforming professionals into traders.

The Model S had a number of ills. Musk took matters into his own hands. He turned most of his company into a sales department. Suddenly, engineers and IT guys became salesmen who managed to sell 4,900 car models in record time.

Support "from next door".

Solar City is a company run by Elon's cousins. They also make solar-powered charging stations for Tesla. Tesla, in turn, supplies them with their batteries, which make it possible to enjoy all the benefits of an electrical connection even on cloudy days. Musk is heavily involved in this company, and after announcing the Tesla and Solar City collaboration, he made it clear that Tesla is becoming an energy company.
Boring Company is working on stamping out traffic tunnels for Tesla, which in the future could be driven by cars in small cars controlled by a computer system. In this way, Elon would like to solve congestion, which is a notorious problem for cities. As he puts it, he is investing 2% of his time in this company.

Gigafactory as a battery factory.

Musk has teamed up with Panasonic for the Gigafactory project. Tesla reports that their giant factory is so big it can hold 93 Boeing 747 aircraft or 50 billion hamsters. The first one was built in Nevada in 2014. A fourth is currently under construction in Berlin. The factory is expected to supply more power cells than all other manufacturers combined. It is an energy storage for homes that can power your entire household for several days - for example, if the sun stops shining.
